What. The. Hell. As part of GDC 2009, Activision and Infinity Ward debuted the trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which is a direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (which came out in 2007 and is not to be confused with Treyarch’s 2008 game, Call of Duty: World at War). But what the hell is this in the trailer? It doesn’t look like a COD game, nor does it even have the name anymore.
The trailer doesn’t show much, but it teases an elevator, an airport, and plenty of shooting and explosions. And if the game’s title didn’t make it obvious, this isn’t set in World War II.
Oh yeah, the game will be released November 10.
But the game’s lack of Call of Duty prefix, along with the puzzling (albeit limited) footage is making me wonder if Infinity Ward built this game from the ground up, and changed everything EVERYBODY loved about COD4 and World at War.
I sure hope not.
This trailer reminds me more of Halo than COD, not that I’ve played either one very much. It has the whole green toxic waste feel to it.
Trailer reminded me of Rainbow Six Vegas. Could be a similar storyline. Hopefully they don’t change the game play and keep the same formula they used on COD4 and COD:WaW.
Yeah, my biggest fear is that the gameplay changes. It looks to be set in an urban warfare type environment, which sounds awesome. But again, the gameplay MUST be based on the same COD4 and WaW engine.
