Black Eyes Peas “Boom Boom Pow” (2009)

Ah, the latest atrocity courtesy of the Black Eyed Peas. This autotuned cacophony is currently atop the iTunes singles chart and is getting ever-increasing radio play. Do people really like this?

“Boom Boom Pow” is the first single from the Black Eyes Peas fifth studio album (third in the Fergie era), The E.N.D., which stands for The Energy Never Dies.

I don’t know what’s the worst part of the song: The cliche 808 bass and handclaps with snare drum fills (essentially, the rehashing of Lil’ Wayne’s “A Milli” and Beyonce’s “Diva“), Fergie’s obnoxious “people in the place!,” or Will.I.Am’s disgusting chant of “shittin’ on y’all with the boom boom.”

Black Eyes Peas are better than this. And I’m not just talking about the ’90s “Joints and Jam” version of the group. Will.I.Am has produced amazing beats recently like Estelle’s “American Boy,” Talib Kweli’s “Hot Thing,” and The Game’s “Compton.”

So why does he settle for crap like this for his own group?
