For those that don’t know, The Roots have gone into semi-retirement (at least from touring), and their new gig is as house band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
Jimmy Fallon will be replacing Conan O’Brien as host of the Late Night starting March 2. Conan will then take over The Tonight Show in June, and Jay Leno will debut his new 10 p.m. talk show in the fall.
As the video shows, The Roots can play absolutely anything, and I’ve seen them cover Mars Volta, Ozzy Osbourne, Jimi Hendrix and Young Joc in the same show. I’m sure it’ll be fun to hear them play when guests come out, and hopefully (crossing my fingers), they will play back-up band when hip-hop artists come on the show.
Here is the first video blog posting Jimmy Fallon made, where he introduced the show, and The Roots as his house band:

What happened to the old bass player?
Hub retired like 1.5 years ago. Owen Biddle (aka O-ski Love, lol) took over. He’s dope, but he has a very different playing style than Hub.
