On Thursday, a new blog popped up showing what appears to be spy footage from the filming of a new Ghostbusters movie.
But there’s more than meets the eye…
Ghostspy contains videos, concept art, and “spy shots” of people running, cars getting destroyed, and a “proton pack.” But instead of looking like the ragged proton packs from the first two Ghostbusters movies, these look slick and modern… like an Apple product.
It seems quite obvious this isn’t a legit site, which leaves a few possibilities open:
a) This is a fan made site made to throw everyone off. If so, mission accomplished.
b) This is a viral campaign by Sony Pictures (notice one of the TV monitor spy shots on the site shows a Sony logo) to promote a new Ghostbusters movie. It’s pretty well known that the script was being finished recently, but could the movie already be in production without anybody knowing? Seems a bit doubtful.
c) The most logical idea seems to be that this a viral campaign by Sony Pictures and Atari Games to promote the 25th Anniversery of the original film. On June 16, Atari will release the long-awaited “Ghostbusters: The Video Game” and Sony will release Blu-Ray versions of the Ghostbusters movies.
Only time will tell what becomes of Ghostspy.
